The History of Soul Music – The Supremes

Join the GRAMMY Museum as we discuss the enduring legacy of The Supremes, one of the most famous vocal groups during the 1960s and 70s.  As one of the first all-African American groups to achieve mainstream success, their music cut across many of the racial barriers that defined this era.  As such, this workshop gives students the opportunity to discuss the Supremes’ music generally, their music as a foundation for artists on the radio today, and their music within the context of the racial tension of the 1960s.
