Emerging in the 1960’s during a time of great change in the United States, soul music became a voice of the Civil Rights Movement. The program “The History of Soul Music” will give students a brief overview of the origins of Soul music, inform them of important artists, record labels and producers, discuss the social climate of United States in the 1950’s and 1960’s and dissect the elements of Soul that helped contribute to the genre’s unique sound.
