Lean on Me: A Tribute to Bill Withers with José James & Don Was

Please welcome renowned vocalist José James and iconic GRAMMY-winning producer and President of Blue Note Don Was, to the Clive Davis Theater to discuss the making of Lean on Me, a tribute album including 12 of Bill Withers’ most undeniable and soulful songs. The album, recorded by James and produced by Was, is being released during the year of Bill Withers’ 80th birthday and was recorded in Capitol’s legendary Studio B with a dream team band: Pino Palladino (bass), Kris Bowers (keys), Brad Allen Williams (guitar), and Nate Smith (drums). James has crossed a decade of jazz excursions and forayed into hip-hop, funk, soul and, on 2017's Love in a Time of Madness, futuristic R&B, while Was has produced for a variety of artists including, The Rolling Stones, Roy Orbison, Gregg Allman, John Mayer, and more. Combined with the timeless works of Bill Withers, Lean on Me is set to be one of the most classic tribute albums yet. Following the discussion with Don Was, José James will perform a special acoustic set of songs.
